Overview

Users with administrator security rights can access the Edit System Security Settings dialog box to edit security settings for user accounts. The security settings are applied globally across all user accounts.

From the Edit System Security Settings dialog box, you can perform the following actions:

Lock User Out After [number of] Days of Inactivity (30 to 90)

Number of days (from 30 to 90) after which accounts without activity will be locked. For example, if this field is set to 30, a user who has not logged in to the system in a 30 day period will be locked out, preventing the user from logging in.

Lock User Out After [number of] Failed Login Attempts (3 to 6)

Number of failed login attempts (from 3 to 6) after which accounts will be locked. For example, if this field is set to 3, a user who has 3 successive failed attempts to log in to the system will be locked out, preventing the user from logging in.

Password Expires After [number of] days (30 to 120)

Number of days (from 30 to 120) after which passwords will expire. For example, if this field is set to 40, passwords that have not been changed within the past 40 days will expire. The key is for the user to change passwords before the expiration date.

Minimum Password Length [number of] characters (8 to 12)

Minimum number of characters (from 8 to 12) required for a password. For example, if this field is set to 8, passwords with fewer than 8 characters will not be allowed.

Enforce Password History [number of] Passwords Remembered (3 to 24)

Number of passwords (from 3 to 24) the system will store for comparison to ensure a password is not re-used. For example, if this field is set to 5, the system will store the last 5 passwords assigned to a user. When the user attempts to change his/her password, the system compares the new password to the last 5 passwords used. If the new password matches one of the last 5 passwords used, an error message is displayed, instructing the user to choose a different password.

This number is a rolling number (e.g., when the limit is reached, the first password is dropped and becomes eligible for re-use).

Warn User Password Will Expire [number of] Days in Advance (5 to 30)

Number of days (from 5 to 30) advance warning the system will provide to users to notify them that their password is set to expire. For example, if this field is set to 5, the system will notify users 5 days before the date their password is set to expire to allow time for them to change it. This feature acts as a reminder to users that they must periodically change their password for security reasons.

Minimum Login Name Length is [number of] characters (8 to 12)

Minimum number of characters (from 8 to 12) required for a login name. For example, if this field is set to 10, login names with less than 10 characters will not be allowed.

Logout time expires after [number of] minutes of inactivity

Indicates the length of inactivity that can pass before the user is logged out of Statement Analyzer. If configured, it is important that you warn your users that, when triggered, the logout process will not save any unsaved Statement Analyzer work or give them a chance to perform a save. Their unsaved work will be lost. Be sure to warn your users if this security setting is used so that they will know to save their work often and especially before they leave the Statement Analyzer window or their desk.

Indicates if passwords must contain at least one number. If the check box is selected, passwords must contain at least one number. If the check box is not selected, passwords are not required to have at least one number.
